I have pretty much always used Lowrance products and just installed a new HDS-8, a Elite-5 DSI and a LSS-1 on the boat I bought last fall. I looked at the HB stuff while I was shopping, the prices were fine and the down/side scan images were impressive, but in the end the donut was a deal breaker. So far I'm very impressed with the units I have.

When I sold my old boat and bought a newer old boat last year, I sold the HB's with it for the same reason. Got 2 HDS-5's and LSS-1 and ethernet. Have set on a single submerged tree in wind and never lost my spot or wondered where I was.

I do that too, all the time with a HB. I can tell exactly where to keep my boat positioned over small structure, but I have run off and forgot my bouy marker a lot, :p

    Justin,
I realize that you're not obligated to HB in any way now that you've bought Lowrance...and I'm glad you are happy with your units...

But, could you possibly do a longtime friend a favor and take 10 minutes and "copy & paste" your quote above into an email to HB...??

    I would "OWE YOU" forever...!!

I just can't understand H/B not addressing the issue if it's just a simple problem. They've stepped up the the plate with a lot of new stuff. There must be something holding them back.
