Default Need info on Powerdrive 65

I just traded a future crappie mount for a MinnKota 65 powerdrive with autopilot and universal sonar transducer ( he approached me and I didn't have to think very long about his offer). It quit working on the guy last spring and rather than ruin his vacation waiting on repair, he bought another one. I have no idea what the problem might be but he says it is getting power to the foot pedal and the motor housing has no water contamination. The prev owner( a friend of mine for over 30 years) said he was told it was probably a board problem in the head. I haven't even hooked it up to batteries to check it.

I currently have a V2 55 with co-pilot and auto-pilot. I like the idea of the 24 volt motor since I normally carry 2 TM batteries anyway. Would installing an I-pilot possibly take care of a board issue or are there more than 1 board in the head? I hate to rob the co-pilot off my current motor and will probably just try to fix the 65 and sell my 55 as it is. I'm figuring on dropping it off at my local authorized service center to get them to check it out.

My question; where can I cross reference the serial number to see how old this motor is? I'm sure I will need to know before I consider buying add-on equipment.

The serial number starts with MKAE 331----.

Did you try calling Minn-Kota service?? I'll bet they could tell you the age by the serial number.

Lots of good poop on Minn Kota here. Go to bottom of page and click on the type you have. This opens year models and gives a detail of the parts, etc. This is a handy dandy reference link. Mark it.

I called Grizzly and got the year and some info. I've got to decide now what I want to do since 65 is not a V2 and won't accept the I-Pilot.

Thanks for the link Cane Pole.

You can change the power control board and make it work. Someone put a link on here a couple of weeks ago with the "how to".

That vintage motor had a problem with foot controls. You could rule that out by borrowing one from a friend and trying it. Also if you will PM me you Email addy I'll send you MK's service manual.

Bill, I sent you a PM. Will the foot pedal from my 55v2 interchange with the 65?

Cane Pole, do you recall the thread that would have been in? I looked around with no luck.
