Ok, could the 898 read the 788 DI ?
thanks

The way I read it...the 898 can read the 2d from the 788...and that all...
Remember again that the 898c SI and the 788 have different types of DI crystals...So the 898 cannot read the DI from the 788...nor vice versa..
So let's re-examine....(I hope I get this right) (Please somebody jump in if I get this wrong)
Your 898c SI can read :
the 2d from the 788c HD DI
share waypoints, routes and tracks from the 788c HD DI
Your 788c HD DI can read "
the 2d from the 898c SI
share waypoints, routes and tracks from the 898c SI
yep, that makes sense, two different types of DI thus they cant read each other, now on a 798 that has both DI and SI, you should be able to read the other unit from each unit, right ??
thanks
maachuu, I'm assuming your 788c HD DI is one of the new HD models that just came out..??
so sounds like to me the way to go would be the ethernet in my case right ? much cheaper and achieve the same thing as the interlink

I think if the model is a SI unit ..then that unit has the "older" DI technology where the DI data is derived from the SI crystals....
Greg explained this to me that it would be near impossible to build a xducer that has 2d crystals, SI crystals, and DI cryatals into the same xducer....without the SI crystals and the DI crystals causing interfernece with each other....
therefore, if the unit has SI crystals, then the DI has to be derived from the same SI crystals...
This would make the 898c SI and the 798ci HD SI have the same type of crystals for deriving the DI image..so they could share all data...SI, DI 2d, waypoints, routes, tracks...
Man..all these model numbers are confusing...somebody please jump in if I get something wrong...:)
