Also for the console do a comparison of the 798 verse the 898, yes a few $$ more but more bang for the buck I think. Yes a DI model for the bow.

Hello folks, I am looking to buy a new TM I am goin big and getting the Terrova and I- pilot. I am also looking at getting a new humminbird down imaging.
What I am wondering is will the universal transducer on the TM work for the Down imaging, or will I have to mount a seperate TDucer. And if thats the case should I not go with the universal TD on the TM and just plan on mounting one.
Also I am looking at getting two HB one with SI and DI, I think I am going with the 798 on the console and a lesser unit on the bow with at least DI, but want to make sure they are compatiable.
So do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for the help
Clint

Clint,
To get DI sonar off the trolling motor you will have to mount a new transducer for this.
What are you meaning by these two units being “compatible”? If you are meaning “can they be linked to share information” than I would make sure you get the 2011 model 798 unit (correct model name is 798ci HD Si Combo) and the 788ci HD DI Combo units as these can be linked via an Ethernet connection and will allow sharing of more than just waypoints.
Thanks greg, Yes I was wanting to link the two units but I was going to go with the 798 hd si combo, and the 598 but I noticed that 500 series are not linkable from what I have found.
Thanks for the heads up on the TM Tducer.
Clint
Right Clint, the 500 series units are not linkable.
The TD on the motor is only for normal 83/200Hz sonar. I was thinking about something like this, though with Lowrance, but it was pointed out to me that DI/SI mounted to the TM is going to be all out of wack, it will be turning and such with the motor. Just do one unit with SI/DI, mount it on the dash, with the SI/DI mounted on the transome. Then you toss out markers or you can tell the TM to Spot-Lock the area and you could fish it off the rear of the boat. Then put a less expensive unit on the bow which can still show the images from the SI/DI unit. Sounded reasonable to me.
