    Question The "Down-scan" fishfinders

I just "discovered" these. I don't know how long they've been out, but they seem pretty cool. I also noticed that they are about half the price of the side scanners. Does anyone have any experience with these? If so, what do you think?

I have experience with the Down imaging from Lowrance with my HDS5, which is probably the closest thing the the new units from Lowrance. I Love the down scan, and have used it every time out. I don't use 2d at all any more, don't see the point when I can get picture quality views.

I'd say get it, and I'm at the point where I'm either going to get another LSS-1, or just get a DSI unit instead and use my HDS5 at the trolling motor for GPS, and the DSI for full screen scanning.

I think Low DI units are down scan only...

The HB DI units are down scan plus 2d sonar.....
I understand that the new HB DI units have dedicated crystals in the Xducer for DI images now (just like Low)..which should give better DI images than the older HB SI units with DI software....
