Default Humminbird Greg or Quadrabeam Pro

Thought I would be able to use my 797C for ice fishing. Normally use a vex but I thought the down imaging would be slick for ice fishing. Since I could not get anything on the DI while on the ice I am assuming that it has to be moving for the DI to work properly. Since the info is supplied via software to the DI from the SI. I should have realized that in advance.:o

I happen to have a quadrabeam transducer I can put on the 797 for ice fishing. Before I go to all the trouble of inventing a rube goldberg contraption for holding the quadrabeam level on ice. Does the quadrabeam have to be moving to function ? What I am looking to do is maximize my info on each hole I drill. The idea of drilling a hole over 22' of water and being able to read 44' wide of info greatly appeals to me. At the very least should make finding weed beds , cover and drop offs a lot faster.

Interesting my DI seems to work sitting still? I think someone else said the same thing. Is the transducer in the water, just asking I have never ice fished.

Yes it was in the water , the DI was on and all I saw was dark blue nothing else. Not at all what I see when using with boat.

The Flasher view (as it stands now in the 797c) has been around for a very long time, and from my point of view, not very useful. Seeing the "Ice Fishing Mode" screen shots for the new 700's got me all excited about the "possibilities". But, to your point, if this were the last software update 797c users were to get, I would vote not to add this feature. Having the room to fix other - yet to be determined - problems is more important.

    Hi trytoofish,
To see the "Ice Fishing Mode" screen shots download either the 2011 788ci or 798ci Product Manuals off the Humminbird website. Find the Circular Flasher View description in the "Views" section of the manual. As a sidebar, I just noticed a similar posting on this topic on the SideImageSoft website. It looks like this feature is being released w/ the 2011 (at least) 700 box's.

    Take Care,
    Roger

    Hays47,
Yes the QuadraBeam transducer will work but like Alan I am wondering why the SI sonar did not work on your 797c Si unit. Did you get anything on the Si sonar beams?

Just remember that when using the QuadraBeam transducer that the 2x water depth coverage is only out to the sides of the transducer and not a circular area as with the normal 2D sonar.
