I have not installed mine yet but it came with a file on a CD that gives all of the installation and operating instructions. I put the CD in my computer and printed it all out 150 pages all total, I punched holes and placed them in a binder for future referance while doing the installation.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

My last boat was a Tracker PT175, and if I were you I would get one of those white plastic transducer mounting plates. I had to move mine a couple of times, this leaves holes to seal up if you don't have the plate.
Other than that it was pretty easy.

Go to the right as far as possible to get away from the step and rib. I had mine just inside outer rib and it wouldnt read depth above 15 mph.

I put the 898 on my boat last year and love it. I mounted the transducer on the left side because I didn't want to interfere with my other transducer from my other Lowrance unit that was already on the right. MAke sure you get as far away from the prop wash as possible and watch the ribs. The transducer needs to be mounted so it sits level as the boat sits in the water. I found that if you tilt the rear of the transducer (away from the bracket) down just a bit it works the best. Remember mount it as low down as you can so it has a good clearance when it reads side imaging. I put another tranducer on my trolling motor and mounted another bracket up front so I could move the unit from the console to the bow.

Hey fisherman WantaB? I'm assuming you used a ram mount. If so, which one did you use and where did you mount the unit?

Does anybody have any suggestions on mounts?

    Thanks

    DEEPCOVER,
Yes it should be the same manual as is on the Humminbird web site.

Get rid of the pitot tube. It'll be in the way and you won't need it with gps anyway. You may be shocked to find you aren't going as fast as you thought though.

    Cool Here's how mine is

I have a Low 180 W. I mounted a HB 997 on it a couple of years ago. My boat has a Step Hull like yours, I originally mounted it where HB suggest to. Got a lot of "Dirty Water" from the step hitting the transducer & distorting the reading. I changed it to what you see here. Works great & I can run 50 MPH & never loose bottom. Mounted it between the ribs..
