Default Humminbird Greg or Quadrabeam Pro

Thought I would be able to use my 797C for ice fishing. Normally use a vex but I thought the down imaging would be slick for ice fishing. Since I could not get anything on the DI while on the ice I am assuming that it has to be moving for the DI to work properly. Since the info is supplied via software to the DI from the SI. I should have realized that in advance.:o

I happen to have a quadrabeam transducer I can put on the 797 for ice fishing. Before I go to all the trouble of inventing a rube goldberg contraption for holding the quadrabeam level on ice. Does the quadrabeam have to be moving to function ? What I am looking to do is maximize my info on each hole I drill. The idea of drilling a hole over 22' of water and being able to read 44' wide of info greatly appeals to me. At the very least should make finding weed beds , cover and drop offs a lot faster.
