    Default HB 788ci Problems

Been reading some reviews of on the HB 788ci unit and have found that some of them share a common thread. They work well for several times out and then start having problems. Loosing the bottom contour, depth reading problems. Do any of you have this unit and what has been your experience?

I think they may have had a batch of bad transducers that went out with some units. I'm sure they were replaced under warranty, but there's still a chance a dealer could have an old one on the shelf. If by chance you did get a bad one, H/B would ship you a new transducer ASAP. I don't think the 778 has any problems itself.

I have the 788c and I love it. I had a few problems with the settings when I first got it, after calling HB they gave me some tips and no more problems.

Contacted HB Service this morning. Don't understand, but they want me to send the old TD back to them for testing. Seems to me if they are having problems with their TD's they would just send a new one. Just a pain in the backside to have to ship the old one!

Do you have the unit now and did you register the warranty? From your question it seemed like you were interested in buying one but wanted a couple reports on it first. I can understand them wanting to check the old one out first. They certainly can't be sending a transducer out to everyone who calls. One time I was having a problem with a brand new unit which they wanted me to send in. As I didn't want to be without a finder, I gave them a CC# to charge, and they shipped me a new one right out, and then credited the card when they received my old one. I thought that was a fair deal. Maybe if you didn't have a CC, you would be screwed.

I have the 788ci and do have it registered. Yea, kinda of a misleading post now that I look at it again. Started having problems late last year and I was wanting to know if anyone else had the same problem before I called HB. Got it boxed up for shipping. Hope it's TD and nothing else. Warmer weather around the corner and wanting to make sure I have everything working. Thanks again for the help!

Mine works great, until I get in 8' or less water. When I am in shallow water, the depth jumps around a lot. I figured I just don't have the settings right.
