Default Lowrance HDS and LSS-1 Transducer

Guys, I am on the verge of purchasing a HDS 5 with the LSS-1 Box to get the side scan and down imaging feature. My only concern is with the transducer for the LSS-1. I will be mounting it on a Tracker PT 175. The LSS-1 transducer seems fairly large and I am worried about braking it if I hit a stump or rub-up against a tree due to the type of areas that I fish. Can any of you guys tell me what your experience has been with the LSS-1 transducer and let me know if I should be concerned.

    Thanks

If you mount on transom you should be OK it has a kickup feature. Also i thiunk now they make a thru hull version.

It is probably not for aluminum hulls.

The thru-hull is really through the hull, but I'm not sure it's available yet.

The transducer will kick up if you hit something. If you are really concerned, it can be mount up from the bottom a little for more protection at the expense of it not working at high speed. Many people mount them that way just because they aren't concerned about it working at speed.

marshjohn - Once you get it mounted post up some pictures. I have a HDS-5 and a 7 on my Tracker PT-190 and am getting ready to add the LSS-1 and want to see the transducer mounted on an aluminum boat.

    Thanks,

I hope to purchase it next week. Now I just need to figure out a way to keep it hidden from the wifey . I should be good once I get it installed on the boat because she will never notice it then.

LOL!!! My wife notices cause she fishes with me quite a bit....she noticed the HDS-5 the first time she got in the boat after I installed it.....about 3 months later she noticed the HDS-7 the first time she got in the boat after I installed it and moved the 5 up front.....she may not notice the Structure Scan but she knows I'm gonna get one sooner or later!

Man that is so funny! Did you tell her how much they cost ?

Fortunately for me, my wife does not fish and she is terrified of the water. Go figure...She is a Mississippi girl and I just don't get it.

I have my boat uncovered in the garage. When I buy new equipment from Bass Pro I normally just throw the bag with the items in the boat. Obviously my wife noticed the bags and just never would say anything until I would get on her about spending money on clothes and trips to the spa.

You should be fine. The bracket breaks over/folds over just for that reason.
