Default Bow Mount Fish Finder and 12v outlet

My boat has a 12v outlet on the front trolling motor plate. I'm wanting to put a fish finder on the bow and use the 12v outlet as the power source. Will I be ok to fuse the cable that goes from the outlet to the fish finder or does the fuse need to be back near the battery hook up?

It should be fine to do it that way,the outlet should be fused at your fuse panel. You can verify this by plugging a light or something into the outlet and then pulling fuses one at a time until the light goes out if the panel is not labeled.

The fuse is for the wire, so the wiring for the outlet should already be fused. You still need a fuse for your FF cable. Make sure the outlet isn't connected to a TM battery.

If it is a straight run to the outlet then you should have a fuse at the battery.

I think you should check the size of the fuse and if there are any other electronics wired into that same circuit...

The depth finder fuse should be no more than a 3 amp....

If there are other electronics in that same circuit..they may need to be fused at a higher amp rated fuse....

If this is the case then installing an in-line 3amp fuse between the cig lighter socket and the DF will protect your DF adequately....even if the circuit is already fused at another place in the circuit....
