Tom,

Don,
Thanks for the call last night and the info.
Hopefully by the end of the week we can get this stuff worked out

I loaded the older software onto my unit and then reloaded the newer version, everything seem to do well. Entered my settings, and off to the local lake today to use the transom transducer the see if the trolling motor transducer is the culprit. well BOTH TRANSDUCERS GAVE SIMILAR IMAGES.
I dont know what the problem is. Only thing else is the toggle switch connecting the 2 transducers together, but surely that would not affect the images that bad on both transducers.
I am gonna buy a dual beam trolling motor transducer just to make sure it is not the quad beam that is on TM now being the culprit, but now I am back to thinking it the unit itself.
Im kinda miffed that I paid the $$$ and something within my setup is causing it not to work properly:mad:. As I said, I used 2 different transducers today (front and back) with similar images.
HELP ME. Im wanting to smash it with a hammer :)
Here are my settings from today:
Sensitivity: 17-20
Upper level: 0
Lower Level:30ft
Chart Speed: anywhere from 7-ultra
Surface clutter: 1
83hz sens: 5
noise filter: medium
Max Depth:75ft
Here are the images:
Clear mode
Attachment 48496
Max Mode
Attachment 48497
Max mode, max sens, ultra chart spd
Attachment 48498
max mode using transom trnsdcr
Attachment 48499
Anyone got any ideas???????
Tom
I don't know but you have a problem or that's some of the clearest water I ever seen. I'm headed out to the lake today I will take some time and some pictures of mine, with settings.
Wish I lived nearby, You could pop my 778C on your mount and know for sure if it's the head unit. My 778C gives excellent pictures and details. If I get out tomorrow, I'll try and get some pictures.
thanks guys, I would appreciate it
Tom
Tom,
The best way to know for sure where the problem is would be to test your unit on someone else’s boat that has a Humminbird transducer. This can be any of the DualBeam, QuadraBeam or even a Side Imaging unit (but not the 981/987 units).
If you cannot test on someone else’s boat than you should remove the Transducer Switch and plug one of the transducers directly into the unit and test it again to see if you get the same results just to eliminate the switch as a possible source of the problem. If there is a connection issue in the switch it could lead to what looks like reduced sensitivity.
As a last resort you could call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks at 1-800-633-1468 and set it all up to send in your unit and transducers to be tested; but it would be best to try and eliminate what works correctly on your end first if possible.
Maybe a dumb question seeing as I never used a 777, but U say u using a Quad transducer Hmnn? do u have it selected as the operating ducer, on 997 u have to go in menu & select which ducer u using............ & I would toss the switch til u get to the bottom of things.
Will do and thanks for the information. Will recheck settings and try without switch and see what gives

jaxsprat,
That should not make any difference because the problem he has is with the 200/83kHz standard sonar which is the same whether the Transducer select menu is set to the DualBeam or QuadBeam setting.
