Thought I read somewhere a way to connect my 898 up

I would ask for the output amperage before buying one as we have had different models of these over the years and not all of them output the 1 amp required by the 898/998 units (note: 1100 series units require more amperage). The Coleman adapter has more than enough amperage (if the voltage stays constant) to power any current Humminbird we make.

Greg, I am to assume that if then amps are not enough, the unit would not power up is that correct ?

That should be correct but unfortunately that is not always what happens. We have seen our units (and I suspect other brands will do this as well) do some pretty strange things when starved of amperage. They will power up but not always perform correctly. If the one you get is one of the 1.0 or 1.5 amp power supplies you should be fine.

The 1's I got are all 1 Amp.

Thanks Wiskers, got the adapter today and it is 1.0 amp and works on both of my HB units, thanks again for all your help
