    Default Trolling Motor

I'm wanting to put a T/M on my pontoon. It's 19 inches from the water to the top of

the deck. How deep should the prop be in the water?

    Thanks for any info.

It's my understanding that the motor should be six inches below the water level??

I usually set mine 18 inches below waterline. This keeps it in the water (most of the time) when big waves occur. I use the keel offset function on my sonar to compensate for the sonar transducer depth.

    Default Trolling Motor Depth

How far into the water your trolling motor needs to be depends on where on the front of your pontoon you are mounting it. If it is in front of one of the logs, then it will need to be longer then the dia of the log in order to properly provide the thrust you are paying for. If you are mounting betwen the logs, then having it deep enough so that there is 6-8inches of water above the tip of the prop when it is vertical should be sufficient. Trade off is that that by mounting it between the logs, you are concentrating your thrust between them and will lose considerable thrust when trying to make tight turns.
