    Default TM FF transducer

what is the difference between a transom mount transducer and a trolling motor transducer. I have a HB Piranha max FF on the TM, and the transducer on the TM looks just like/similar to the transducer on the transom. The transom mount transducer is for a lowrance, but the HB on the trolling motor is a close twin.

nothing as far as the units, some transducers are mountable on the motor or the transom. but I dont think you can use one brand on anothers unit. my lowrance transducer came with two ways to mount, trolling motor or somewhere else on the boat.

not trying to mix up the brands, but I was surfing the web and noticed some trolling motor transducers have a different appearance from transom mount transducers, and was wondering if one style works better on the trolling motor as a general rule or not. The HB on the trolling motor stinks imo compared to the Lowrance, both are entry level units.

talking about this version of a transducer

a different style, is this one more suitable for a trolling motor, or does it even matter?

I usually just use the skimmer type because I'm usually in too big a hurry to wait on a transducer swap. Electrically it's the same. Just the plastic around it is shaped differently. The TM style might be a little less likely to snag on things, but it works fine.

This is what I refer to as a puck style. It is designed to be on a trolling motor. It is no different in functionality to a skimmer transducer, but is less likely to break than the skimmer.
