Default How to get a minn Kota maxxum pedal to loosen up?

I have a 36 volt 101 lb thrust Minn Kota Maxxum, I am new to Minn Kota and so far it is very difficult to move the pedal. I know about the cable screw in the front but that does not seem to have any effect on how stiff the pedal is to move forward and backward. Is there anyway to loosen the pedal up so I can move it from a seated position? It is so stiff I have to stand on it to get it to move.

I once had a Motorguide that was hard to move the pedal and ended up disconnecting the cable at the trolling motor head and spraying some WD-40 down the cable and it fixed my problem. You might also check to make sure the cable is not in some sort of a bind.

Yeah, you got some kind of a bind, defect or issue with the cable or the mechanism somewhere. I wouldn't use WD-40 though if you're gonna try and lube it. Maybe some higher quality lubricant, but not WD-40. What you're experiencing is not right though and I can see a trip to an ASC in your future if you can't find the bind.

I agree with Wannabe about WD-40. As a lubricant it is a waste of money as it dries up. It is good for water displacement on a wet ignition. Get a can of Deep Creep from your local Advance Auto. If those cables are going to loosen up that stuff will do it. But I strongly suspect you will have to replace them. PM me your e-mail addy and I will send you Minnkota's service manual.

I always use PB Blaster to loosen up my cables hold or tie your foot control up somehow and try to get the PB Blaster to run down the inside of the cable jackets....soak it down good and then try working it. You can get PB Blaster at WalMart or most any auto parts store.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
