I wouldnt buy the Lowrance cause everybody will start following you around and fishing all your new spots you will be finding. :) Just had to give Lowrance 1 plug anyway.:) I am very happy with my setup but you do have to buy 2 pieces instead of one to make it work. Any of the Hds units 5 7 8 or 10, and the Lss-1 side/bottom scan unit. Well satisfied with the performance too.

Look at it his way. You pay less and your getting less. Buy anything less then the 997 and you will always wish you had gotten it. Read what you get with it then read what your getting with the lower priced units.
This is one place where you get what you pay for . I still have the old 987c-SI and when it dies you can bet I will replace it with the 900 series unit again. The power in these is where your getting the bang for the buck.

Thanks for the info fellas... Man that was a good price at Cabelas for the 997... they were sold out last time I looked. I am looking hard at the 997 or the 898 right now. Just have to get a few more pennies saved up.
GoneCrappieFishing - what two pieces are you talking about?

Are there any downfalls to the humminbird 997cx si?

For running the unit from console to bow with same transom transducer I bought an extension cable and ran it from the console to bow. When I move unit to bow I plug cables together at console and plug other end to unit at bow. But do not turn on unit unless cables are plugged together at console.
