Default JOBY - 788ci Speed Update

Joby I have the 788ci and the speed bounces quite a lot to where you really don't know what speed you are going when trolling under constant power even when on a glassy lake. Will the external antenna improve the performance of this?

I have a 788ci and thought the changing speed was due to going so slow that when the unit senses a change in position that it jumps to the new position. If that makes sense. I am interested in Joby's answer.

When I am trying to go slow it bounces from about 0.2 to 2.0 with some +/- variations on each end.

I have a 787 with the internal antenna and experienced the same thing. HB tried to fix it a couple of times then just said the heck with it and sent me an external antenna for free and that solved the problem. Been perfectly happy ever since.

I was wondering if the external antenna would fix the problem but at $150 for the puck that is an expensive gamble/guess.

This probably goes back to the slow processor problem they had.

So even if you have the internal GPS you can just plug the external in and it will pick up the external GPS. My dad is having the same problem with his 788with internal.

I know you can connect the external antenna, but was unsure if the external antenna would fix the issue or not. But with the expense of the external antenna, it does leave a bad taste in your mouth after spending that much on a depth finder to have issues like this.

I was going to bite the bullet and buy the puck when I went to BPS Monday but they don't even stock it at that store.

I already have the extru pucks just was not sure if it would pick-up the external entenna. If I hooked it through the interlink would it pick-up the external antenna?

There were a lot of chatter on here last year and before about the slow GPS with and without going through the interlink. Don't do it. It updates VERY slow.
