Default Lowrance unit fill of water

I went fishing at pomona for a couple of day and the 510 c is full of water.
I call lowarnce and they say that that they did not make that unit any more
but for $387.00 I could get a up graid.

I paid $537.00 2 years ago for this unit.
No more lowrance I call Humminbird today getting a new 778c.
All lowrance are now off my boat going with Humminbird.

If people knew what their service was like before they bought I'm pretty sure they never would have sold the first one, lol. I feel your pain. Bad thing is, I actually do like their products pretty well when they are working but HB's service has stolen my business from them.

Sorry if this sounds rude but guess what, when your 1 year warranty runs out, HB will do the same exact thing (with either company, if the unit is beyond warranty you will have to pay for repairs). What happens when everything else you buy is out of warranty, you pay. It's interesting that over a year out of warranty you expect them to do better then that? since you didn't say what unit they offered for $387, if it would have been an HDS5 with insight to replace a unit that's A. out of warranty, and B. no longer made, I think they were doing a pretty good job to satisfy.

If you think HB cares so much about you now, you'll probably be switching to Garmin on the next go around.

There have been a lot of valid lowrance complaints in the past, but this one is not a Lowrance problem, it's consumer expectations that are not realistic.

(I have no affiliation with Lowrance, but almost every company that I can think of wouldn't even offer you a credit towards a new product in this situation)
This is not an attack on Dirt Water, HB, Lowrance, Garmin, Crappie.com, or Beagle Man.

True but when your in the marine electronics business people expect their electronics to be waterproof! I had a buddy of mine just got a couple cups of water out of his HDS unit that he just bought a while back. Guess what he is getting a HB as fast as can. It's one thing for your screen to fog up some mornings from moisture but when you get a couple cups of water out of a unit somethings wrong and when you don't stand behind your product and support it after you pay $1300 for it. Well that sucks

I think your buddy with the HDS should NOT TOLERATE any problems. He should give me that HDS (I can handle the stress) and get himself that HB. Please be sure to have him supply the transduce and mounting instructions.

Very true on an out of warranty product. A person will have to pay for repairs. In this case though, Lowrance won't service a unit only 2 years old. that ain't right. The ability to have your older unit serviced is a big plus and Humminbird is there for you. I don't think Lowrance wants to be bothered with repairs, so they make a unit obsolete and offer you credit on a new unit instead. On the original posters problem, I doubt he would have paid near $387.00 for a repair on a similar H/B unit. So I think it's very important for a company to continue to service your older electronics.

BS my HBs have never filled with water, and they have been in some real heavy rains!

I'm pretty sure all HB's are waterproof, if Lowrace isn't... that's just pee-poor craftsmanship!!!

Who would want to own a sonar unit for a boat that wasn't waterproof???

When I was ready to get a new unit I was told that Lowrance had a water problem and not to get the HDS5. I went with an HB 788. Still learning how to use it. My old unit about all you could do was turn fish id on or off.
