I just bought a Humminbird 788 Combo for the bow of my boat. I'm looking to raise the height up to a more comfortable level. I use several combinations of rod holders so a mount on each of those is out of question. I've looked at the RAM mount system but I'm afraid it won't raise the unit up to the level I'm looking for. I think I want the unit pretty much at the level of my spider rig road holders so I can program/waypoint without having to reach way down to deck level. 2 neck surgeries and too many calories make that a motion I really want to avoid. Any ideas or photos of raised mounts? Thanks!

How about a ram mount with an extra mounting ball for each rod holder set up?
I've seen one made of PVC from someone on this web site... Maybe he will see this message and post an image.
If your holder is stout enough to take it, you can buy a ball that's designed to be bolted to a rail and attached it to your cross beam. It'd have to be dang stout though to stand up to running with it attached.
Long arm Ram would probably be a better answer though. I think the long arm is something like 11.3", combined with the balls, the mounting plate and the height of the bracket, you'd probably be looking at 15" to the bottom of the actual screen. Then you could add height with some metal stock if needed.

I like the idea of the long arm RAM mount with 1.5"ball. I've done a couple of searches and haven't come up with anything. Any ideas? Any places that let you design your own RAM mount by buying the balls, base and arm separately?

searching RAM Mounting Systems, Inc. I found this ball rail mount:
UNPKG RAM 1-1/4" RAIL MOUNT
Product Number: RAM-231-1U
Your Price: $14.64
Will this fit your vertical support for the rod holders?? If not search the site for more options.
I've got a 788 on my bow also. I'd stay away from that little 1.5 & go with the big one (2.25 or 2.5). Also look at the Cannon downrigger mounts for a very sturdy base. Here is the link, and the J & H folks are top notch too.

Hope that helps.

Dern Maj, 'em are high for a little pedestal. Still, should give you some ideas on how to design and build a pedestal for additional height and then put a Ram on top if you want to go that way.
The 1.5" balls are designed to support up to 10 lbs. The 2.5" are as big as you can get, but one with an 11" long arm, even if available is gonnabe high dollar and over kill. The standard D sized Ram Universal only has a 3" long Arm, but probably provides something close to 7" of lift due to the size of the balls. Trouble is, they're $95 at BPS.
I had a 788Ci mounted to the bow with a micro 1" ball, 5" arm and it would hold, although you really had put some grunt on hit. Had a 5" Lowrance in the same spot and it held too. I belive the 1.5" long arm Ram would hold a 5" H'bird or Lowrance fine. Maybe not a 7" or larger though with the long arm.
Looks like we may have been wrong on the max length of the 1.5" arm. Longest I can seem to find is 7.88"
