    Smile motorguide trolling motors-tension

Hi, everyone. I have a55#thrust, Motorguide trolling motor. It will turn due to torq when headed at full speed. I called Motorguide and there is no tensioning screw or way to keep this from happening other than keeping your foot on the the foot controll. I don't know why Motorguide does not address this, I can't be the only one having this problem.Anyone have a quick fix. Thanks in advance for any help.I love this forum. There is a world of knowledge always willing to help. Thanks again.

There's was one a few days ago. Something to do with a PVC pipe repair clamp, may want to do a search for that thread. I don't remember all the details.

I had that same problem.... moved from lazer radio controlled motorguide to cable motor guide and hated that I couldn't take my foot off the pedal and keep the pedal from moving. I couldn't set it in one direction and run it with my foot off. Spoiled by the advantages of wireless.... I solved that problem now by going to minn-kota.

I also have a 55# thrust Motorguide. My TM is a wireless 55. My problem was the motor had plenty of power but would not turn with either remote. Ended up having to take into warranty center and they replaced the "transmission". It is working on boat but have not tried back in water. Is this similar to your problem or do you have a different TM??

luvfishin526, My 55#thrust Motorguide is a regular foot control. I may have to get me a Minn kota. It's a shame some one at Motorguide didn't pick this up during testing...... that is if they did any testing.

If you have the tour edition, you do have cable tension adjustment nuts on each cable on the underside of the foot pedal.

If you don't, then you don't.... but.. make sure the unit is deploying plumb. It should be as straight up and down as it can be when it's deployed for regular fishing.
