Default Where would you install a Humminbird on a Jon Boat??

I thought I would start another thread as this becomes a different issue.

I have a 14' Smoker Craft Jon Boat (see picture of 16" model below) and will install my Humminbird 565 most likely on the back since that is where the 15 HP Johnson motor and the transom mounted Minn Kota 50 LB thrust will be. The battery will be there too.

So your suggestions as to location are greatly appreciated!

I am still up in the air of whether to mount the fish finder, battery and trolling motor in the back or the front....suggestions are appreciated!

In any case, if up front or in the back (I am heavy and worry about the weight issue), any suggestions as to where on the boat to place the fish finder is appreciated!

You need to mount it where you will be fishing. If you fishing from the back-mount on transom. If your fishing from front, mount it on the TM. I fish from the front deck, and have one up front, and have another one in the back for when I'm on the motor.

I have a Ranger Bass boat with a HB997 on it. It is mounted with a 2 inch ball mount. I also brim fish out of a 14'x 48" jon boat in some small water fishing in my area. I mounted a transducer on the back of the jon boat and ordered a extra gps puck, and power wire. I mounted a 2 inch ball on a 16"x 12" pine board that way I can move the 997 to the front or back of the boat as needed. Works for me. I say mount it to a piece of wood and move it where you need it.

I would mount it at the middle seat location on some kind of elevated bracket so you can turn the unit to face the front or rear of the boat. I have a friend that did this and it works good.
