Default Humminbird FishID helpful or not?

I've been using my HB 180 for about a year and I'm convinced most of the positive FishID returns are just the returns from structure such as the bushy end of blow downs.

I've traced the same routes with and without the FishID on and have gone from massive schools of fish to only seeing structure on the display. Add that these "large" schools have never produced I now find my self second guessing what i see on the screen.

Are the bad returns more of a product of the entry level unit or is this an issue with the whole line of HB's?

I've been trying to convince my "bank manager" that 1K for a SI unit is really a good thing... so far it's not working so I'M stuck with the 180
