Default need suggestions for 2nd humminbird unit

I am looking for a second unit for the bow to mount to my US2 motor. All I am looking for is a good unit that will give me the definition I need to identify fish without spending extra on thing I do not need like gps, etc.
I am not even sure if I need color or can get by on mono.
I was looking at the 343C and 345C, but do not know what the difference is between these units and if I can get away with mono, then maybe the 325.
Any suggestions on what I need or if it is one of the above, what is the difference?

    Thanks!

The 343c was replaced this year with the 345c so you should be able to find a good price on the 345c units. Operationally the 345c will have the newer 2010 features like the SwitchFire menu.

The 325 is a 2010 year model unit so it will be the same as the 345c except with a black & White monochrome display.

Personally for 2D sonar I would want one with the highest pixel count that I could get. You might want to look at the 778c or maybe you can still find a 777c from a few years back at a good discount. 640 vertical pixels would show a better image than the 320 vertical pixels of the 300 series units.

I have the Humminbird 586C and really like the unit a lot. They go for about $350, or a little less on sale and have a lot of good features for the money. I like the big 5 inch screen and the 2,4,6 or 8X zoom feature. Also the dual beam makes it easier to figure out exactly where the fish are under your boat when using the fish ID setting. It also has up to 640 pixels resolution that shows structure details better than low resolution units

good luck and lots of bites

Thanks for the info. I agree about the pixel count, what I will have to see is if I can get it at a price that I am willing to spend right now. If this was my main unit, I would definitely go for the best, but I already have that on my dash, so this is just to have one at the front running off the transducer at the front.
