    Default Lowrance Hds5

I Just Bought A Ranger That Has Two Lowrance Hds5 Units With Lake Insight. I Would Appreciate Any And All Opinions About These Units. Please List Likes Or Dislikes. Would You Recommend Any Type Chip Such As A Hot Spot Or Navionics? Thanks.

Congrats on the new boat!!!!! I have no idea on the HD5 but the Navionics Premium or Platinum would be money well spent for mapping options.

Good to hear. Looks like a warming trend coming after the rain Monday/Tuesday. They are ready, just need the water to warm just a little. Look forward to seeing ya'll there.

If you have insight, don't buy any cards until you've gone out with the units. I'm plenty happy with the mapping on my HDS5, and I like the unit a LOT.

I noticed the last update added Hot spots info to the maps. To me, there's nothing wrong with the insight, but maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

Has contours, channels show up, that's what I'm really after with mapping.

    Default Hot Maps

    After evaluating Duncan's suggestion.

Might I suggest looking at the difference between Hot Maps and Hot Maps Premium on your lakes.

In Alabama, there are no differences. I saved $60+ purchasing regular Hot Maps versus premium.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I talked with a Lowrance Rep today at BPS and he told me the first thing I needed to do was to make sure I download the latest upgrades before I add a card of any kind. See ya next weekend Dan.

    Default HDS insight maps

I think the main thing you want to check and see what maps they have on the insight. They may not have your lakes or high definition lakes you want.I think those insight maps are from 2006 I could be wrong. The new chips have more HIGH definition lakes as they have mapped the lakes Navonics that is.
