    Default Down Scan Please Confirm

I went to Bass pro last saturday to buy a new depthfinder. Was looking at the HB and Lowrance models that had the Down scan. I talked to the guy in the electronics dept for almost and hour. He really let the wind out of my sail when he told me that the transducers for thes models can NOT be mounted on your trolling motor. Is this really True? Does this guy know what he is talking about. The reason I ask this is because he said he does not own a boat. Not that it matters, just sayin.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

Jesus Tom, don't leave me hangin. I was hoping of all people you would see this thread and put your 2 cents in on it. I totally respect your opinion on electronics. Is the question to complicated for you to explain? I really would like to hear your opinion on it.

I have mine currently TM Mounted... but moving it soon to a rig similar to CP's.... the Xducer mounts easily enuff... but it does pick up EMI from the TM... plus the Xducer is turning fast (rotating left and right alot) as the TM turns.... distorts the images on the screen

This is what I know. HB you can mount the transducer on the trolling motor. I have one on my trolling motor. With no problems when you go in a some what strait-line. Not so good when you turn sharp or quick. Lowrance I hear you can't mount the transducers on the trolling motor. I was told because Lowrance uses 2 separate transducers with there units. But I don't know, I don't have a Lowrance. What I would do if I where you is call Lowrance customer service and ask them. If you can get them to answer the phone! LOL

Yes times 2, same what I hear, know some folks got them-HB units on troller up front & just love it for bass fish things. Don't know a thing about Lowrance but I agree with BamaMan to call their customer service, even if as we hear they are sort of hard to reach but either way that call may really help you decide which brand you want to spend your $$$$ on.

The Humminbird Si transducers can be mounted on the trolling motor – we even make one designed just for this and there are other companies that make custom mounts for doing this as well. Doug Vahenberg owns the Yahoo Side Imaging web site and is a proponent of Si on the trolling motor. I suggest that you go to this web site and join it so you can look at the Si images he has taken from a trolling motor mounted Si transducer. Sure turning the trolling motor will distort the image but if you really learn to use your Si it can be used as a flashlight of sorts by pointing a beam forwards or to the side of your boat to look for structure and fish.

For beginners though I would stick with Si on the transom until you get more familiar with it.

No comment about the BPS feller. Wouldn't wanna hurt his feelings

I can't drive a TM in a straight line so I mounted mine on a deploy-able bracket. Here is a nice one made by rnvinc
