    Question I have a 587ci and it has s/w version 4.62 and

when I go to my acct at humminbird.com, it shows an update to s/w but the update is 4.44. Im not sure but I thought the higher the number meant it was a later version of s/w, so thus the version I currently have on the unit would be new than the one that I downloaded from humminbird site. Am I reading and thinking right on this ??

    thanks

I agree with you fishindude, the answer to me was vague, so I just sent back the simple question of which is newer, the 4.62 on my unit or the 4.44 that is on the website, maybe that will clarify it for them and me

    thanks

    finally a reply :

    Dear Larry,

Thank you for contacting Humminbird. We appreciate your interest in our products.

The version software 4.62 is higher so would be the newer version. The software you have within your unit was the latest version released to our production line and at this point if it has not been added to the online website registry is something still to come. You do not require an update if you currently have the 4.62.

If we can assist you further on this subject or any other Humminbird related questions please feel free email us again or contact our Customer Resource Center at 1-800-633-1468 to speak with a Customer Service Representative. Our hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

How do you know what software is currently installed? I checked my account and the same update was available for mine but I don't know which one is on mine.

I went to the humminbird site and downloaded the update to my desktop and the I loaded it on to a sd card to put in the slot of my 587ci. I followed the instructions posted on here on how to update with out having freeze ups while updating and then when I took my sd card that I had saved the update on out and put the sd card in my unit a screen popped up telling me what version I had and asking if I wanted to overwrite it or something like that. Below is what is posted on humminbird website on how to check your s/w version :

    Checking Software Version

There are currently two ways in which you can determine the software version of your Fishing System unit

1.Connect your Fishing System unit to your PC and use the “Get Unit Profile” feature of the HumminbirdPC program to display the “S/W Revision”
    2.Follow the steps below:
•Power your Fishing System unit on. This can be done while on your boat in or out of the water or with power only connected to your Fishing System unit.
•While your Fishing System unit is displaying the model number, press the Menu key. Example: your Fishing System unit is displaying “Humminbird 767 Fishing System”.
•The display on your Fishing System unit should change to show you four menu options: “Normal”, "Simulator”, “System Status”, and “PC Connect”. With the four way key, use the Down Arrow key to select “System Status”.
•The Fishing System unit will ‘time out’ and will display the System Status View. The software version is listed under “Software Version”.
