    Default Some awesome Lowrance information

    Check this thread out. This fishton guy is doing some serious work with the HDS and downscan. I think you'll agree that it's pretty awesome, if not let me know.

    I don't trust folks with writing on the side of their boat. They always pimping something.

    A few of us are gonna do some testing this coming March. May the best unit win. It will be a fair test. Equal opportunity for all. Or is it justice for all?

    Don't guess I will ever get a sponsor. I ain't too good at hawking nor do I have a favorite ice cream.

    He's not sponsored as far as I know CP. He has HB on one side of the boat, and Lowrance on the other. Not sure why?

    Default 86 Degree Angle

    He is mostly harping on the 86 degree angle down image. If my math is right, with a 30 foot depth, you're missing 9 ft of image on each side at the bottom.

    The 2d on the HB should cover this but then you don't get the crisp image that the Lowrance is providing.

    At least that's what I got out of the discussion.

    I appears from that thread Low has the better down image, but I don't hear anything on comparisons of side imaging.

    I want to see both of these units in action before I purchase.

    I try not to get involved in the tit-for-tat that often accompanies these sorts of comparisons. Much like Ford vs. Chevy, Country vs. Rock, Blond vs. Brunette....people have preferences and find reasons to not like the others.

    Are there technological differences? Yep.

    Do those technological differences mean that because of them, you'll catch more or fewer fish?

    I believe the answer to that question is, no. And catching fish....that's the bottom line, right?

    Frankly, I don't see any of the image issues that this particular person does. I collect wonderfully clear images, both Side and Down Images, with my Humminbird Fishing Systems. As every owner knows, it's all about transducer placement, and I don't know how a person can have two different transducers in the boat's "sweet spot" such that they both produce the best possible images. I certainly don't see any so-called "dead spots" that have to be filled in with low-resolution 200 kHz data.

    But the debate....that's certainly entertaining!

    Default Bad Math

    I had faulty math. Anyone able to tell me how to edit my above post?

    Correction:

    in 30 foot of water, you're theoretically missing 2.1 foot on each side or 4.2 foot directly on bottom.

    tan degree = opposite/adjancent
    tan 4= x/30
    x = 30* tan 4
    x = 2.09 foot.
