    Default Humminbird vs Lowrance

I am going to get a new unit and I'm torn between the Humminbird SI and the new Lowrance HDS with side and down imaging. I know the 2010 HB models will have the new down imaging as well. HB technology has been out a little longer but I have always had a Lowrance and really like the HDS. HB is a little less expensive and the Lowrance actually requires mounting the LSS-1 module. So what do you think guys?

well go back and read the several post on the subject. there are many, I my self prefer the Lowrance. I have had Humminbird, now two Lowrance units on the boat, and they preform great. clear picture, great detail, and no complaints with anything so far. I think what your are doing is good getting info, keep at it. everyone has there opinions on what they like, and a smart person listens to all the opinions and take from each what you think will do you best for their situation good luck on your search.

I have had Lowrance units for years with no problems. Thinking about getting a HDS unit myself.

I just took the HDS plunge. Bought the HDS7 and the LSS-1. Will try them out first of next week when this awful bad weather spell goes by.I researched for a real long time before I made my mind up.I have loved my Lms-522-cigps.Hopefully I will love the new one as well.

I can't say enough about Humminbird's Side Imaging technology. It has changed the way I fish. If you'd like to learn more about how Humminbird can do the same for you, check out some of these instructional pieces, several of which deal specifically with crappie fishing:

Both brands have similar technology. There's a lot of comparison information on Bassboatcentral.com and some of it got heated enough that they split the forums up. I made the decision myself to go with lowrance HDS but I hadn't seen much about the down imageing at that point now I'm glad I did. The main reason I left HB was the stupid Donut and other GPS related issues. Often times I'd just use my Lowrance handheld Ifinder H2O in lieu of the HB unit that I payed 1000.00 for. that's pretty sad.

Do the reasearch, and since they both have side and down imaging, just compare results. Don't rely on stock photos, just go to BBC and look at the real "user" results.

I don't think there's a guy more into field testing Lowrance then the guy that posted the link below. He's been doing side by side challenges on his boat with Lowrance and HB. The results don't lie.
