Ok learned ones... my electronics on my boat are older than dirt. It is the time of year I start dreaming of the "what ifs". If I wanted to shoot the moon and put new humminbird electronics on the boat...what would your ideal set up be?
Would this be 1197c with nav on console, and 788c on front, with interlink? Does anybody use SI on trolling motor? Should you get the nav hot spots bundled... or buy separately? Can you buy nav bundle for 1197 and share with 788c?
I need to get out of the dark ages.... you guys tell me how to spend my monopoly money....:D:D

Do Yhe New 1197 Combo's Have Both Side Imaging And The New Down Imaging? I Am Thinking About Getting A New Boat And Would Like Both.
bigfish5,
The 1197 will have Side Imaging and DownImaging. If you happen so to get a 2009 model of the 1197 and it does not have the DownImaging feature in the unit all you will have to do is update the software and then you will have DownImaging and all the new features that were released last week.
You dont need the SI on the TM> You do need a large screen. 1197 on the console for sure. SHOOT THE MOON !
You just described my set up. I have the 1197si on the console with a Ram mount so I can spin it and see it from the front. Also have the 797si interlinked on the front and a Navonics map card just for the 1197.
It is in my opinion the ultimate set up.
You will face some challenges with SI on the trolling motor when you make turns especially sharp turns.
Well, maybe I was not even getting out of the earth's atmosphere and since this is monopoly money at this point.... why not put a 1197 si c on the front and take advantage of the si, down image especially, and have a large screen for these old eyes.... would that be overkill ? Or at least 1157 c for large screen?
hunter68... are you able to use navionics maps on your front 797 having bought them only on the 1197 unit. I have a lot to learn.

Hoosier. Bad news is you will have to buy a card for each unit as interlinking does not share the maps between units. Good news is I have found the map very useful to get to the area I want but never really needed it up front.
Moving the 1197 up front to the transducer in my opinion would be a waste because most of the side imaging I do is from the console while running big motor. Cool to mark from the console and then use the front unit to go to the point.
I mounted the 797 on a Ram mount as close to me up front as I could. Would love to have a bigger screen up front as well but just got out of my price range.
I guess I am wondering with the the new down imaging.... don't you have to have the SI for that to work... and wouldn't that then mean a person should get si for the TM as well? I guess I am wondering how many out there use SI on the front and how effective it is for you? Sounds like hunter68 you don't really use that feature on the front even though you have it?

My experience is you have to me moving at around 3 mph to make SI truly effective and it is rare I move at those speeds when on the trolling motor. Down imaging in my opinion is much the same. If you are not moving the 2d image is better.
