    Default lowrance X50DS power supply

I recently bought a used X50DS from a guy. He had just bought a X96 he used the existing power cord from the X90DS for his new X96 and gave me the new skimmer w/temp and power cord to go with the used unit I bought off him. Problem: got 12.53 volts coming out of power cord but the unit will not power up. Carried the unit over to a friends tonight, friend has a X47, pluged my unit up and it powered up just fine. Brought it home will not power up. Sent a e-mail to lowrance support awaiting reply. You would think if his x96 will work on the x50ds cord the the x50ds should work on the x96 cord. Go figure. Does anybody know what I do not ?

Are you sure the power cord is wired right? May have the poles backwards. Swap the +/- leads on the power cord and try that. My HB's won't work backwards.

They use the same cables and transducers. Fuse? Try running the leads directly to the battery and see if it will power on then. If it does, you aren't connected to a good power source where you installed. A poor connection will give full voltage until the unit comes on, then the voltage will drop due to insufficient current.

    Default fixed x50ds problem

My son went out this morning, took his knife and trimed just a bit of the rubber from the ground hole on the plug and walla, it works.

    Thanks for the ideas.
