Default Lucky me! I found an AS GRHA50

Was reading/studying on one of the other forums last night and ran across a post where someone found a HB AS GRHA50 at Jet A Marina in Calvert City KY and said that he thought they still had more....WELL...!!

You can bet that I was standing at Jet A Marina's door when they opened this morning....and lucky for me...they had 1 left...I snatched it so fast the guy at Jet A Marina probably thought I was crazy.....

Then, I told him that HB had discontinued the AS GRHA50....he said that he only, ever, kept 2 of these in stock at any time.....

I wish they had more for you guys that want/ can't find one......

Now if I can just get that 1197 unit ordered.....

RnVinc- What are the advantages of that unit? Is Humminbird replacing with a better unit? I want to know if I need to be in panic mode because I just got 997cSI with the 16:D

I believe the grha50 is the new puck going out with all newer models. Just got an 957 and it came with the 50. My 997 that is 2 years old came with a 16. BPS is selling the 50 for $149.

Jethro, you must have purchased a used 997 if it came with the 16. Sorry!

Jeepstero4- I purchased it new from Gander Mountain. End of season clearance price of $1350 plus got $100 in Gander Mountain "Gander Cash". Humminbird's website does list the GR50 as being supplied with the 997, so I was disappointed when saw on the 997 box the 16 was supplied. It was the last one the store had, and figured at that good a price, I would see how 16 actually worked and then could later get upgrade if not happy. So when I saw this thread started wondering what I need to keep my eyes open for.

    Jethro,
I would see which GPS Receiver is inside first. Unless this is an older 997 unit than it should have an AS-GR50 inside. Open the box and see if it states “GR50” on top of the GPS Receiver.

There has been a little confusion on the model numbers in this post: there is the AS-GR50 and the AS-GRHA. The GR50 is what we currently produce and ship with each unit. The GRHA is a more accurate GPS Receiver than the GR50 and was discontinued due to low sales volume this year, so Rnvinc may have bought the last one in the country… Both the GR50 and GRHA are more accurate and will lock onto the satellites faster than the GR16 will.

Greg- Thanks for responding. The GPS puck has no identifying number on the top of the unit just "Humminbird GPS Accessory System". On the bottom of the puck is GR 16/4. Is there any chance of exchanging the 16 for newer model?

It’s a GR16 than Jethro. No, I don’t think that our Customer Resource folks can exchange a GR16 GPS Receiver for a GR50 GPS Receiver.

I think the GRHA accuracy is close to 1 meter while the GR50 is closer to 4-7 meters, (Greg, please correct my numbers)....

So the difference in accuracy may not be justified to some..(which is probably why HB states low sales volume for the GRHA at $199 each)....

If you want the higher accuracy it's going to be hard to find a GHRA because there is just not that many left in stock anywhere.....

I got lucky and read a post on Humminbird Side Imaging Forums - Index about a guy that happened to find one and knew that the retailer had, at least, one more...

It just so happened I was working nights and read the post at 2am saturday morning and was at the retailer's door when they opened at 8am....I got the last one he had and he didn't even know HB had discontinued the GRHA....

One other thing that I have learned here and especially at the other side imaging forums is that if you are ready to buy a Si unit....it would be in your best interest to contact the retailer and ask them which puck comes in the box with the unit you are getting ready to buy.....

And if you can get the person at the retailer to open the box and tell you the serial number....you can actually tell when that exact unit was built by HB....which will also tell you what should be in the box with that unit...

If the unit that the retailer is getting ready to sell you still has the 16 channel puck in the box...then that unit is older than Jan 2008... (Greg, please correct me on this also)....and that unit has probably been sitting on the retailer's shelf for nearly 2 years.....
