Still sounds like a bad 'ducer'. Check it with another unit, that is working properly. <*)}}}><

Where is your transducer located? On the outside of the boat or is it shooting thru the hull? What is your sensitivity setting?

my transducer is mounted on the transom externally and my sensitivity is set about 64 percent. I'm wondering if there is some other settings that I could possibly change that would help. In the settings I changed the bottom settings to black but it made every little bump on the bottom look like a giant brushpile.

Is the transducer thumping? Feel the "bottom" of the transducer out of water.

You should feel 3-4 slow thumps followed by about 5 or 6 fast thumps. If you can't feel the thumps, put you ear on the xducer and listen....

Be sure you hear or feel them thumps.

    No thumps, no work.

If you go to lowrance webpage and download a sonar simulator you can play with this for until you understand the settings,

You are talking about the old paper graph unit right? I got a couple in the shop. Some yankee gave them to me.

So you have the color unit? Make sure your transducer setting is on 200khz and take your sensitivity up to @72% and see how that works. If 72 is too much, back it down a little at a time until you get the picture you want. Test this on structure that you know what it is ( brushpile, stakebed, ect...)
