    Default HB 798si

I have a HB 798si and i have it mounted on the console. I need a depth finder up front to fish brush piles. I had a HB wide 3D vision up front that has stopped working. Here is the question:

Can I use the old vision mount and transducer with my new 798si?

Also can I split the GPS so that I can mark waypoints as well?

Basically I want to use all of the features of the 798SI except the SI up front. Any recommendations and help would be appreciated.

The mount should be the same but the connector collector will be diffrent.

If you move your 798i to the front you have internal gps so you will be able to mark a waypoint with that unit.

You will also have to use a different transducer as the transducer from the Wide 3D Vision will not work with the 798c Si unit. Since you do not want Si up front I would recommend the XTM-9-20-T transducer for the trolling motor as this will give you 2D (only) sonar up front as well as having GPS capability.

If you have an internal version unit (798ci Si versus the external GPS version 798c Si unit) than all you have to do is move it up front and the GPS goes with it. If you have the external GPS version than you will either have to get a second GPS Receiver or buy the AS-SysLink cable that will enable two units (or stations in your case) to use one GPS Receiver.

What is the difference between the HB 797c2i SI and the 798ci SI? The HB factory outlet has both of them. The 797 is listed for $941.95 and the 798 for $864.95. I'm real close to buying one and I want to get the better of the two.

    Thanks.

The 798 has a wider screen (640 x 640) vs the 797 (640 x 480), has 2 SD crd slots instead of 1, and has 3 "soft keys" that you can use to set "preferred" views to flip between, rather than scrolling through all available views using the "view" button. The 798 can also be upgraded to Down Imaging, while the 797 cannot.

My advice: of the two, get the 798.

798 will be upgradable to downscan in Jan. I have 2 of them and love them.
