I have my 997 interlinked to a 917, but it should work with the 700 series, and most of the Matrix models.

One thing to remember is that the interlink can cut the number of waypoints you can store in half, depending on the models you link. As an example, both my units can handle 3000 waypoints, as can the interlink. However, the way the sync works, you're limited to 1500, because the interlink needs to be able to store the waypoints from both units in order to run a sync. If you go over that number, the units really act freaky when you try to add a new waypoint. At least that's what happens to me the way I have them set up. Given the number of lakes I fish, I basically load the lakes I fish most often, then add and subtract as needed during the year.

I guess if you think about it that way fished-out that the number of waypoints you can save is halved – but that means 1,500 different waypoints on each unit. The total waypoints that you will be able to save is limited to the maximum number of waypoints that either unit can hold – the InterLink will not add to this number. The number of waypoints that can be shared is limited by the unit that can save the least number of waypoints. So in your example since both units can save 3,000 waypoints, than those same 3,000 waypoints can be shared between the units. Now if one of those units could only save 750 waypoints than you would only be able to share 750 waypoints.

Wow Sure wish I had seen this a month ago. That new Matrix 97 is going to cut me down to 750 waypoints.
But it sure saves one fast. Where my 987c-SI is taking for ever these days to save a waypoint.
So looking like I need to keep the waypoints below 500 where I can save new ones for a week of fishing.
