Thread: Handheld GPS questions

You and I are suffering from the same malady. These new Geek devices are programmed by the super intelligent whiz kids. They take to it like a Duck to water.

What those Geekey idiots don't have is adult supervision. They'd ought to run all their inventions by their grand parents before putting all that gibberish up for sale.

If us old farts forced those young X#@$ to make the language plain to their grand parents, anybody could work the dang things.

I have a Garmin 72, which works good for all that I've been able to figure out. It will measure less than 1 mph, but I don't normally go slow like that so I'm not sure how slow it will go.
The book on how to use the the thing was written by somebody that cant stay on a subject long enough to finish a sentence though. The instructions end in the middle and jump to a different page without taking the reader along for the trip.
I've never seen a "Bubble flow" or any kind of a start-to-finish trail for doing a function in the Garmin book. (although I'm not sorry I bought the G-72, just very angry at Garmin for hiring somebody out of an asylum to write the instructions)

I use a Garmin GPSmap76 and like it very well. I bought a VHS instructional tape from Garmin and it was helpful in learning how to operate it. Had to stop and re-wind it several times but finally figured it out. The best training was taking it out on the water and experimenting with it.

I tried experimenting while out on the lake. Lordy I just get frustrated and angry at such a waste of a good opportunity by Garmin. A good simple book is worth a lot of praise by the users. I usually quit and go fishing.
I also tried walking around my hilltop with it too. Its too confusing for memorizing. I needed a grand kid with pen n' paper with me.

I have owned a Garmin 72 for about 4 to 5 yrs, and I still stumble with it. I'm convinced that you have to take with you and use it all the time to remember the processes. I called garmin once and the guy on the phone told me that the unit wasn't very user friendly. Like I had to be told. Very accurate speed and setting waypoints isn't too hard to remember. Not many bells n whistles on mine, but I could always back track my trail. Power cord is about $16 and you need one and a dash holder for no matter which one you buy. Info cord for the computer would be neat to have so I could review on the PC. Got a lowrance sonar/gps this week and don't plan to sell the garmin.
