    Default Lowrance 527 gps questions

    Hey guys,

I have a Lowrance LMS 527DFigps sonar on my boat and was wanting to learn how to better use the GPS on it. Do any of yall know how to program GPS coordinates into the gps from a map and run them off your gps as a continuous route to follow. The reason Im asking is that I have the gps coords of the licking river channel from Boat Row cut to Bangor on Cave Run. I wanna be able to just look at the GPS and follow it up the river but am fairly new to using the gps like that w/ programmed stuff. Have any of yall done this before or know how to do it. Any help is appreciated! I need to make sure I do it right because there are some monster stumps just under the water up there that Im not wantin my lower unit so find anytime soon!

I just installed a 527 on my boat a few weeks back. In this section is a thread "sonar images, good read". There is alot of good info in there. Still new to mine, I can't answer your question, but maybe this will help shorten the learning curve. It did for me.

    Thanks skeet,

I love everything about the unit, esp the sonar, but Im still wanting to learn the gps stuff better. Ill give that a try skeet, hard for a hillbilly to figure all this fishin' technology out, so I figure its gonna take plenty of practice to get it down..

I need this bad, I went fishing there yesterday and witnssed two boats abosolutely trash their lower units fishing the headwaters of Cave Run, dont want that to be me, and it will help me after dark. C'mon guys, if yall can run a Humminbird SI this 520 shouldnt be near as complicated as far as gps is concerned. :D Its a lms 527c igps. Please help fellas, I can't afford a new lower unit as well. lol

I use Map Create to do all that. The only way I know how doing it directly in the unit is to use your cursor and move it around until you have the exact coordinates of the first point. Push enter to save that point, then go to the next until you have them all in. When done save that as a route. You may have to cahnge the coordinate's format in the unit to match the format you are working with. Seems like there should be an online program to work with that.

    Thanks Bill,

Is map-create a program for the PC or does it come with the unit. I think I can just put the coords in like u said but It will prob take forever b/c its miles and miles of river, I have the exact coords on a map for the whole route, but sounds like that mapcreate might be a lot easier. Thanks again IBN.:D

Its a pricey accessory from Lowrance. MapCreate Mapping Software | Lowrance

There is an older version like mine on E-bay right now for about 10 bucks.
