Garmin etrex Summit HC Field GPS?

I have a 10 year anniversary gift coming from work. This is one of the gifts. I don't own a gps system for fishing. How will this do? Is it worth getting? Here are the specs:

Can you use mapcards say from lakes? I don't know a thing about these systems. Help, please.

I like the garmin e-trex and my buddy has I think the one you are describing. he likes it real well. I down loaded hot maps for him and way points and they worked fine, I dont know if you can get maps on a chip or not. but if not they are easy to download if you know anyone with the maps. garmin good hand helds

If I purchase these maps for download will I be able to load on my handheld Garmin? What is the process in downloading and then uploading to a handheld? Is there a connection wire or jack I will need to buy?

bassky, in my garmin box and on their web site I just orderd the patch cord for my computer. the lake maps I have are from garmin, fishing hot spots, real easy to load. and I mean easy you plug in the garmin and it will ask you a couple questions. then you press transfer to device. and you are ready. I takled to garmin couple days ago and I dont think they sell the fishing hot spot maps now. but there are others out there. also I had to get another computer so I bought a lap top and they are just as easy. Note!! If you get windows VISTA there is a program you have to down load befor the maps will work, it is not a problem though. I did It and if I can anyone can . If I can help just ask If I cant help I bet there are a bunch on here that can .... good luck

to get all the details/specs on this unit. Does not take a map card as such will have to do a download from puter with a $8.00 cable, but one may be in box already. Unit has 24mb of memory. U may have to buy at BPS a $90.00 Garmin inland lakes DVD to down load to puter then to unit. Download very easy as explained good by beagle man.

beagle man, what is the program you mentioned that will enable Fishing Hotspots to work on Windows Vista. I have the same problem as others in that I had to get a new laptop and it has Vista. Thanks for any help you can give.
