    Default Humminbird Gregg?

    Mr Gregg,

I cannot turn readings 2 and 5 off on certain views in the ladder panel. I have all readings off but panel 2 and 5 appear on some views and always displays true N heading in panel 2 and speed in panel 5.

Also, I used to be able to set my parameters up in the simulator and the unit would remember the settings. Now when I power down/up, I have to set all the data up again. I have tried both versions of firmware (4.180 and 4.510) and have same results. Is this a problem or cockpit?

This ain't in the book or I would have already found the answer.

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Continued:

I plan to mount my 997 on my jon boat (on occasion). I have a garmin 76 collecting dust so I am planning on using it as the "antenna". Is this AS- HHGPS cable all I need to accomplish this task? The 76 has nmea 0183 in/out capabilities. I have the serial cable for this 76, so I should be able to identify Rx/Tx.

    Thanks again

    Tom

    Tom,
The digital readouts for positions 2 and 5 are locked on some of the Views and are not user selectable. Unless they unlock this through software than that’s the way it will stay. Others have asked that this be unlocked but so far it has not been.

If you just connect up the power and allow the unit to turn on and by itself automatically go into the Simulator than it is in the Point Of Sale Simulator (or POS Sim!). In this mode it will not remember any menu settings as it is meant for show room floor simulations where anyone could set the unit up so that it does not work. All menus should revert back to the predetermined settings when no button is pressed for two or three minutes or when the unit is powered off. Now if you connect up power and manually force the unit into the Simulator mode than it will remember all menu settings. This may have been what you were doing before. To force the unit into this version of the Simulator you will need to press the MENU button while the unit is turning on and displaying the “Humminbird 997c Si” message. When that message goes away you should have three or four menu options with one of these being “Simulator”. Use the arrow buttons to select this one and the unit will be in the Simulator mode that remembers the menu settings.

Yes the AS-HHGPS cable is all that you will need to use the Garmin as the GPS Receiver for the 997 unit. It will come with instructions on what connections to make.

Ok. I, now remember. I haven't used the unit much lately. I get rusty with the buttons. Suffer from frequent "core dumps".

    Thanks

I think Cane pole just told me I did not need to buy that 2nd ant. last year to mount on my portable ice fishing base which I did so I could switch unit between my boats & others. The original ant. is mounted permanent in one of my boats. Will this setup power the 76? can u still use 76 for marking finding waypoints while hooked up? Can a person with 3 thumbs hook this up?
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.....

You are right. The Garmin operates on 11-37 volts input. I am gonna use the +V out from the HB to power my Garmin, but I am gonna use my 276c as I have the proper cable that the 276c uses for this application.

Also, I just ordered the interface cable from HB. $24 for cable. $10 for shipping.
