    Default Matrix-97

How many are running the Matrix-97 up front on the trolling motor? I'm thinking about one there. And use the deal to share waypoints between it and the 987 on the back.
Looking for feedback on this unit set up this way?

I'm doing it. Worked fine until I added the latest update. I'll get it turned around and it will be ok. I have my 997 on the console mounted with a Ram mount and swing it around so I can turn around and use it while I fish. I use the 97's GPS and the 997 2D sonar.

    Pete,

I run two Matrix 97's. One on the Trolling motor. One on the console. I use the one on the console for GPS only and run an 1197 beside it. This might not be feasible on some boats but mine is a CC so I had plenty of space. I have the interlink, but did not install it in the boat since I pull all the units off the boat after each trip anyway... I simply hook it up from time to time to "throw" waypoints from unit to unit..

This set up is working great for me. The matrix 97 is a very good unit.

Also, keeping the interlink portable, allows for sharing waypoints between friends a snap

    Quicksilver,

Do you happen to have a copy of the previous update for the 97? I have the latest, but would like to go back to the previous one.

    Hi UT,,

I just checked and Version 3.0.26 is still available for download from the Humminbird web site. Let me know if you still can't get it and I'll try to help.

Is everyone having issues with the update for the Matrix 97? If so I will hold off and not change mine. After waiting a few months I have one mounted on the boat now. Still have to get the deal to share the waypoints between it and the SI unit.
Guess I will also put my grip in here also. Hard to belive Humminbird is so cheap they do not supply a cover for a unit that cost this much. Shoot they have one on there $149. $ unit but not one that list for $800.
Guess I need to start selling hooks and stuff without a point on them. Make that extra. LMBO

    Pete,
Originally there was never a hard cover designed for the Matrix 97 as there is with the newer units. So its not a unit cost issue here. This is an old design that just never had one made for it.

For us 'the consumer' it is a cost issue. If Shiloh purchases a new 97 in 2009, for practically the same cost as they were originally offered, I would think the product would have comparable features and acces. as similarly priced units. In the electronics world old designs have a tendancy to drop in price dramatically in just a few years.
Weren't there lower priced units on the market before the 97 that included hard covers? Or soft covers? There is obviously a market for the cover.
The real question is H'bird planning on offering a cover now or in the future on their $800 unit, while currently offering a cover on lower priced units?

I would definitely purchase a cover even as an aftermarket acces.

With it being an older design I doubt that they will be offering any Matrix 97 specific accessories.
