    Default Shaft Length

Where do you measure from and to for the length of the shaft on a trolling motor?

May be different on other brands/styles, but my Terrova is called a 60",
and it is 60" from just touching the top of the motor housing up to the bottom
of the "head". I'm gonna say the actual shaft is 60", then you got the 3 1/2"
motor on bottom of that, plus the 3 or so inch head on top.

would it be possible to replace the shaft with a longer one on a minn kota? my bow mount is about 6 in shorter than i would like and my cash is even shorter. i dont see why i couldnt swap out the shaft with something of equal diameter and re-wire the whole deal. any thoughts???

Thanks Jeff, that is what I thought. I found a buy on a power drive with a 60" shaft. If it is too long I can shorten it.

Yeah, I spose a fellow could. On anything besides a Terrova, I would
inquire with minnkota on how much a longer factory shaft would cost.

The Terrova is a odd child. I found out the hard way that on it, you have
to buy the shaft+motor housing (includes the magnets) and if you buy it
outright it is like $132... but the other models you just buy the
composite shaft alone. I would think they would be a lot less than this,
but I'm just supposing. By the time you figured out a metal shaft of the
right diameter and bought it, then the time and labor to make it work, it might be as cheap to go with one of theirs.
