Yes, you can get high temp engine paint at most if not all auto supply stores Snake River. I got this one at an Advanced Auto store...but they all carry engine paint. Thank you for asking. Eric.

After you paint the mold does it make it stronger and how do you clamp them together for shooting
Snake River, yes the paint should add strength to the plaster. After a mishap with a previous mold, I’m going to place a thin piece of plywood on the back side of the mold to spread any clamping force out more. Also the use of spring clamps like super oversized clothes pin type clamps to clamp it. I had tried to use a small bar clamp with a screw type handle for pressure which didn’t end well for the mold. Even though I only put an extremely light amount of pressure one side broke into three pieces. Now mind you it was clamp straight onto the mold. So now I’m going to use a couple small pieces of wood. Hopefully in the morning, giving the paint a good amount of time to completely dry...
Have you ever thought about using car body gumbo For making molds. used to use the gumbo for Glassing in rifles
Are you talking about Bondo, or fiberglass resin? Not sure what auto body gumbo is. Can you explain?
I think he means bondo
I have heard of using it, as well as the resin from the auto store for cars, but personally, no as it’s a bit more costly...

Yes I meant bondo.
I just checked the mold and it is dry so I will do a test run in the morning and see how it shoots...Eric, AKA Jamesdean

Well, didn't come out to well, nor as well as I would have liked. But it's fixable I think. Will work on it some more and go from there...more in a bit...Eric.

I think I need to use my Drexel and make the tails or tail fins a bit heavier. There is some flashing I’ll have to deal with...but one it works. I have some life things to do to keep momma happy, which in turns allows me to keep doing what I like, hahaha...Eric.

Just wondering, but when making the mold, could you put in some screen, or even rabbit mesh fence, to give it some strength?
I suppose it's possible. Never heard of it, nor seen anyone do it, but I would think you could as long as it didn't interfere with the bait...Sent from my SM-G892A using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
I let them sit on a piece of scrap aluminum for the day, then did a bit of trimming with a pair of scissors and this is the finished product...
I need to get a couple small ball head type bits for my dremel before tackling a fix on the tail area. In the meantime I will see how the fish like them... updates later. EricAttachment 386386Attachment 386387

Thank you Mike.
I think they look great Eric. Looking forward to reading about your fishing adventures with them.
Thank you BuckeyeCrappie, still need to work on the mold with my dremel, so I won’t have so much flashing to trim off. Eric
Very cool Eric. Great DIY thread!
Thank you Dave. I appreciate the kind words....Eric
You did an outstanding job there Eric the best that I've seen on here.
Thank you Bob.
One word says it all Eric......OUTSTANDING
Thank you “G”. But I’m not done with it yet. It will be a little bit, but I am going to get the bits I need in about a week to 10 days then get it right. Mommas project took all my spare money, but she’s happy and that’s what count’s. I will be bringing this back up then for sure. Thank you everyone for following along and all the kind words and encouragement. Eric.
Oh ya, I will be posting any fish I catch on these also....
Well as promised...I got a chance to go fishing Wedsday and man was it windy here in the show me, Missouri. We had winds at 15 with gusts uptown and over 30 mph. Thought I was fishing in a tropical storm. Had great big bows in the line and the pole tip was never still. I managed a couple throw backs, nothing I would keep. But it proved they work, and that's what I wanted...
Now I'm going to concentrate on getting my boat ready, or at least fish able. To many other projects and wants keep jumping up. Priority now is my boat...EricAKA Jamesdean...
