Yes the body off and leave the tail inside the mold and shoot a second body color yet and yes you can use a marker to make a stripe Spike it makes a paint for plastic you can airbrush it over a screen to get D scale look .

I've read and seen a boatload of Horror stories...I'm prolly better protected than most guys pouring...having a past of metal fabricating, long sleeves plus my foundry sleeves, and from my pitmaster days I have my silicon gloves, and welding gloves on standby...Had severe burns from the old days...and have a healthy respect for hot plastic!

Your prolly right ...the fish don't care, these baits are bigger than usual they are 3 - 4" plus I watched a guy on youtube do it with frogs in an Ali mold in a regular injector... but I'm making plaster molds with built in injectors... Maybe its a " You can't get there from here" scenario

I'm kinda Hijacking my own thread here...Bob mentioned using a toothpick to stripe...
Quick story here...Up here we are frozen in for 5-6 months...Ice has been super crappy, I live almost next to a power plant that has a warm water discharge, so I keep 5-6 dozen crawlers in the fridge over the winter( For nice days) this year all my Crawlers died
I noticed when using the toothpick as you suggested I got a slender tube that kinda resembled a worm...so mixed up a color I call river mud (colors that got muddy) added some glitter then injected the tubes with Worm oil Sheep heads (Drum) went crazy...
I know you guys are Hardcore Crappie guys, I just thought it might help somebody out in the Northland when you can't get Crawlers
