Bobby Garland colors

Here are some baits made in Bobby Garland colors. I started with the small fry but the colors got lost in the smaller bait so I re-did then using this bait so the bellies would contrast a bit better.
All colorants, plastics and hi lites are Do-It products with Essential being the plastic. All were batched out at 4 ounces.



At the top is the easy one and is called Eclipse. Its a simple pro blue hand-poured for the belly with solid black over the top. The pro blue is nothing more than thin smoke with an over-dose of blue hi lite.

Next is the Tadpole color. The belly again is hand poured using a simple clear with a jacked up amount of fire-opal glitter, enough so it bounces well with the uv enhancer in it. The back is a simple watermelon brown with a partial drop of plain brown. I added the colorants in this by dipping a thin stick in each color and stirring until I had the color to a point that it matched what Garland had in their color plate. The back color is very transparent and once I had the color nailed I added bronze hi lite, enough to let the color take off a little even if you cannot see it here. Garland called for some black flake in their brown but I opted away from it.

The bottom is Blue-Back Shad. It got started with the very thin purple smoke made by adding small pieces of plastic in purple and black to the clear as it cooked. A fair amount of purple hi lite was added to the smoke. It is in there but with the heavy clouds today it is not showing up very well. The bait on the left is just showing it, but the purple is quite vivid really. The blue back started as clear with just a wee bit of black plastic to create a very, very thin smoke. Fluorescent blue was added, about two drops, to make a slightly dirty blue, then the blue hi lites got added, about double what I normally would have added to blue. This blue paired with the purple smoke belly is just something else.

The tadpole color has my attention for a Ring-It and a Thump-It in the larger size....maybe the 2 1/2" size as well....to go in the walleye bucket. The Eclipse might go there too. I see the Blue Backed Shad as a great mid-day crappie color.

Garland has expanded their color selections quite a bit over the last year with the Blue Backed Shad being a new one. The other colors have been there a while but I have had them on my radar for a while too.

I'll comment on the cover dip here too. This is nothing more than Essential with a small bit of uv enhancer added. Of all the plastics I have used over the years, this Essential has the greatest degree of shine of all of them. I often wonder if the degree of reflection deals the camera fits when taking pictures of baits that have interior color I want to show. lol The plastic cooks up with the least amount of bubbling, applies smooth and has a shine darned near as close to a mirror as a guy can get. I can see portions of our house being reflected in a couple of the plastics and I show up at about 11:00 near the eye of the blue bait on the right. The Essential just is an uncanny plastic for sealing and top-coating.
