If you are just getting started, use the 1 cup pyrex so you can make smaller batches and still be able to stir easily. I do not recommend anyone trying to whip up batches more than 4 ounces until they have a solid understanding of how the plastic handles and they have a firm grip on temperatures and such. A regular spiral bound notebook will work for a reference book. Be sure you get a digital thermometer and get in the habit of using it from the get go. Yes there are those who seem to have outstanding luck doing the plastic without a thermometer, but get one. On the Do-It boards, 95% of all issues surround temperature. Don't get a infra red, don't use a candy thermometer, get a digital probe type. Read the instructions and then use it.

Also go to Home Depot or Lowes and pic up some tiles to set your hot pyrex cups on so they do not scortch or burn your desk space. Get a good set of oven gloves that withstand temperatures up to 400 degrees. Pick up some eye protection and a good respirator.

The 1 cup size Pyrex is better at least for me! When using a injector it's just easer
