Default i wanna make a mold

there is a certain soft plastic bait that i love but i want it in a color that the manufacturer doesn't make, so i wanna make a mold of it and pour my own color in that bait, what would be the cheapest way to do this and how, i have never poured any plastics before.

You could just make a plaster of paris mold from the bait you have. Mix plaster of paris is an aluminum pan. Let it firm up a bit. Gently spray with Pam and push your bait in to the Plaster of Paris. Use tweezers to remove the bait from the mold. Let the mold harden for at least 48 hours. Use a mixture of Elmer's Glue and water to paint the mold and seal the mold. Let it set a few hours and then seal it again with the same mixture. You can pour your plastic bait the next day. The drawback is one side will be flat. Here is a thread on this subject. http://www.crappie.com/crappie/diy-s...ter-molds.html or read this one http://www.crappie.com/crappie/diy-s...old-today.html

You could also make a mold out of bondo resin. http://www.crappie.com/crappie/diy-s...hang-lure.html

If you want to spend a little money, take the bait to a mold maker and have an aluminum mold made. I like to inject the hot plastic instead of pouring it into a plaster of paris mold because when you do the plaster of paris mold the top side will always be flat. Aluminum injectable molds are the way to go!

Hand pouring is fun but time consuming. Ship is right you will have a flat side to you bait. Plaster is the way to go,its affordable and easy to use. I coated my molds with a light coating of epoxy. Be sure to post a pic or two of your hand pours. Good luck.

I would not try to waste my time making molds anymore I would go to lure craft and by the molds if you're wanting to do hand pours the Over 1000 to pick from including aluminum.

Snake is right . But we need a pic of the bait in order to take the right approach to helping you do this . There are several ways to go about it with differing results . Completely forget it if it has tiny appendages . Trying to hand pour it will cause you to lose your religion .

Take a look at this link for supplier names. http://www.crappie.com/crappie/diy-s...6-supplys.html You can buy aluminum molds from index ; also Caney Creek, Jacobs baits, Bear baits or Tackle Underground.. Many molds are of such that you cam make 10-20 at a time depending on the size of the mold. To inject you just melt and color your plastic in a microwave. Be sure to use a pyrex cup. Wear gloves and use an aluminum injector. Suck up the hot plastic into the injector and then plunge it in to the mold. When the plunger stops then you stop. You are done.

Here are some paddle tails I did. Now if I can do it then you can do it too. You need a mold, injector, plastic, microwave, pyrex cup and coloring. Wear long sleeve shirt, jeans, protective footwear and goggles. DO NOT have water anywhere near when you are working with soft plastics.
