    Default two color help

hey guys, im kind of new to pouring plastics. REAL NEW. I have made alot of jigs in solid colors that i use to fish below Truman Dam. I wanted to make two color jigs like blk/chart, wht/chart etc... I have been cutting them in half then pouring the second color on top. I havent used them yet but have heard/read that this isent a very strong bond? When i give them a tug it seems strong enough? what do the experts think????

If you do the two colors back to back before the plastic has time to cure they will bond well and you should not have any trouble. It is when one color cures and then you try it where you start running into trouble usually. It also depends on the way you are connecting them. If I do two colors top to bottom on like a shad after one has cured they will not bond good, but if I do head and tail after one has cured it does not seem to effect them that way. It is hard for me to explain without showing you.

This is sound advice. I like to shoot the second color at around 360 and I load it up with stabilizer when it gets heated.

I also go into my boxes and cut tails off plastics shot quite a while back and use them in shoots where I want a second color and I don't see any problems with welding.

Another thing I do is to add some softener to the first color plastic while its being mixed. The softer plastic is easier to trim to go back to the mold and when the hotter second color goes it the softer plastic seems to bond better.

More than anything, practice makes perfect is a good rule to follow and take lots of notes on what you are doing and using so future shoots can be duplicated from the notes and less time and product waste come about.

I will usually have both colors heated to about the consistancy of a very liquified syrup. I use an old microwave. I inject the first color in to the mold. Them I trim the tails of cut the lure in half and replace it into the mold. Make sure your second color is still very hot. Secure the mold (I use vices) and inject the second color. Use a little pressure as they said but not much. Too much pressure causes flashing. Keep the slight pressure on for about 15-25 seconds. You should have a good bond by then. Welcome from Alabama.

Well I have had trouble with a top bottom laminate. The only way I ended up getting around it was buying a dual injector and shooting both colors at the same time. Now that is the ticket.CF

As I said in my earlier post, I try and keep both colors at 355 ish or so. I will cut off the bottom belly part and replace it in the mold. Clamp the mold. Heat the second color up about 15 more seconds and then shoot the top color. Keep slight pressure on for about 20 seconds. Works for me. I am only making about 10 lures at a time though.
