    Default First injections ever

Well it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. No burns, only one short injection and quite easy.

Learned that chartreuse will burn and darken fairly quickly. Pink/bubblegum was a lot more forgiving.
Emptying the injector and the mold takes longer than filling them.
Warmer mold and injector leads to better fills.
It doesn't take much to fill one of those molds.

Can't wait til I can get some new molds and make some more interesting things.

Not every cavity filled but didn't expect perfect my first try. This was the best of eight I did, think it was the 6th one.

I do have one question for anyone who can answer it:
Can a person get the plastic all ready to pour with the base color all mixed and then swirl in a couple drops of another color and expect to see at least some swirling in the finished product?

All I need now is to get some Plastisol, some colors and a couple more molds and I will have plenty to do when not fishing.

One really good thing is that the skirts will work for salmon and steelhead fishing in the fall after taking the bugs off. 2 different uses out of one injection is a good thing.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

To answer you question about swirls . First heat your base color then put one drop of the secondary color in the middle stir from center out ward in wide loops one time . Go back to the center with your injector fill the injector and shoot . Just make enough for one shot . The more you make each time you fill the injector the more the two colors mix . you could wind up with yurple or something worse .

Looks great but becareful went a couple of months before I got my first burn got in a hurry and careless one day.
Small stream shot out of the injector hot plastic hurts and leaves blisters. Wear long sleeve T-shirt
    and gloves everytime now.

I use a couple of old tube socks, cut the toe out pull them up over your arms then put your gloves on. You can pull them off when you finish don't have to change shirts when it's hot. Looks good for first try. You will pick up something everytime you do a batch as in what works and what don't. Here is a couple i have learned that works for me. I put a couple drops of oil in my injector before i start. I use a hot plate so i pull my plunger back and set the end of my injector on the hot plate while the plastic get hot. Tip don't clog up when i do this and i can shoot several times before having to clean out my injector after each shot i wipe the end off with a old rag and pull the plunger back and set it back on the hot plate. By keeping it on the hot plate you don't have to pull in plastic a couple times to heat up the injector. If you do small batches like i do have something you can set your pan on to tilt it so when the plastic gets low it won't get air when pulling in plastic. Cub48

I will definitely be wearing long sleeves, gloves and the works at all times. I pour a lot of lead sinkers and will never pour unprotected again. I do need to get me a good pair of gloves though as hot mat gloves are tough to feel anything with.

I did figure out that using a measuring cup will help a lot. Having a handle to hold to stir the plastic will make things a lot easier.
