Well I have a couple battle scars from plastic as well. I always were gloves and I mean always!! Until one nite I was cleaning up after pouring, took em off and the butter knife popped out of the cup and on my hand. People said it was the Worse burn they have every seen! (it hurt)! so please be careful and keep work areas clean! Hope you heal up soon man. I hate it happen
I was burnt once but not that bad, hope it heals fast
Thanks for all the concern. I hope no one else has to experiencethis. It's healing but slow. I got a new mold in today so I had to get back onthat horse. You know I had to pour at least one run. I was extra careful andcovered up. Everything went well.
Wow! thats rough, wish you a speedy recovery! Was the tip clogged/ pressure problem? I read the do not do sticky but my stubborn self pours in a t shirt without gloves glasses etc... in 9 batches I havent had a problem yet... but think Ill be alittle more cautious and safety oriented next time.
Bennett, When You fill up a mold and keep a little pressure on, sometimes it will create a seal under pressure and just as You remove the injector, plastic squirts out and it can be in all directions. Please get something to protect Yourself. a cheap lab coat or something. It does not have to be thick. Just something to keep the hot plastic from getting to Your skin. And at least wear eye protection. You might shoot 1000 molds full and not have a problem but I guarantee You will squirt some hot plastic in an unintended direction sometime. Just hope it does not go Your way and goes away from you. Take the safe route. It does not hurt. A bad plastic burn will hurt like hell. I am not saying this for trying to be a smart a$$. I was wearing a T shirt a 1/3 of the time when I was shooting and just so happened I was wearing a long sleeve shirt on my first incident. I WAS NOT EXPECTING IT! I will never shoot again without the right clothing and eye wear. Scared the crap out of me. CFQuote:

I glad it opened some eyes. The one time I didn't have my sleevespulled down. I was applying pressure to the injector and the tip slipped out ofthe hole knocking the mold over.
Did a stupid thing about 40 years ago I started making my own soft plastic worms and we just had single molds that you would turn over to see if they were ready to take out. I feel sure some have guessed already what happened. I had several molds poured and happened to forget which I poured last so I picked the one I shouldn't have and turned it over and that hot plastic ran between my fingers and that was the end of my making my soft plastic worms, LOL!
Glad this was made a stickie to remind us all and those in the future who go into making soft plastics to be safe when working with hot plastics.
