Head Color Suggestions

As Most of you know I am a avid jig tier. However lately I have been getting into plastics. Was given A bunch by a friend. Most were 1.5 to 2 inches. Alot of different colores and combos. I am starting to use these but would appreciate it if you could give me some suggestions on what color of heads to use. Have White grubs, Green and Chartruse with red in center small twister tails, Black and white, and some colors and combo that are down right fugle. These are from a factory that are a major player but are end of runs or between runs to clean machines out for next run. I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth so took them and with a big thank you.

Now it up to you to help me out. As I am at a loss as where to start with purple and blue combo. Or should I just fish them all with unpainted heads.

Sounds like you have a good choice of plastics colors. My two main head colors for plastic baits are chartreuse and pink. Most of the time any color combo you put on those two colors work well. I always keep some red, orange, white heads in the box too for those picky fishing days.

Thanks Stump !! That will make for some intresting color combos. We will see what happens when I get on the water hopefull tomarrow as today is a Honey-Do day. Will report back on what I find our and what works best.

Here are my 3 favorite colors of jig heads, unpainted, unpainted, and unpainted. That should be easy enough. Once in a blue moon I do well with a pink head.

you should use pain it heads that satisfy you most of the time I am not trying to satisfy fish I am trying to satisfy myself is far is color combinations go but I do use some weird color combinations sometimes I wonder about my imagination and what are the fish thinking perhaps it just a shades that they are after I think gambler feeding frenzy that seem to go was something it looks like what they do and if feeding on I truly love chartreuse a lot with green on it I don't much care for black it's not one of my favorites white is not my favorite but blue green Brown's and grays are my favorites if I was to pick out just to head colors I would pick out Ruby slipper in chartreuse chartreuse goes with anything I'm glad that you are working with plastic baits red man I hope that you me post some of your stuff when you get that made up we made some crappy dancers today green and chartreuse which you would: call lemon meringue in color we have been making this with chartreuse and white mixed together this is a fantastic color don't know if you guys have made this up with plastics or not we do use a lot of Perl white mixed in with other colors it will save you a lot of money by buying premixed Perl colors by buying the white pearl in large qualities you can add to any color that you want to get Perl I do like the combination of Perl and bubblegum side-by-side or a tale white bubblegum body or mind lemon meringue for the body tail light or black with lemon meringue tail we were using red and white the other day when we cut the 2 fish it was pretty close to Ruby slipper and color I think it was more a candy red we added silver glitter side-by-side on the shark red on top white underneath but red man you must use your imagination went ever looks good to you that is why you should use for a had color I believe that I posted the other day many years ago 99% of my jig heads were not pain it we did not start painting jig heads in till I was in my 30s and when I started to make them to sell to people I was satisfying people not fish or me myself because they look terrible without paint on the heads any time that you tidy up a jig and you do not paint the had it looks bad there's nothing like a good painted jig. With eyes of course to set the jig off and it also shows that you take pride in what you do you might say that guys that do not paint them may not want to go to the expense or they just don't want to do it at all for what little that paint cost and is you probably know a jar of powder paint will go 1,000,000 miles we have in the neighborhood of over 50 pounds or more of powder paint I don't think that I will use it in the lifetime and we are still adding to the list every time that you turn around they have something new on the market usually we buy from the people that make it and also all work with if you guys on here as we do share when we buy a pound or two I have not posted many colors that we do carry we have not started a list on hand tied jigs on my site I didn't want to get into 1 million different combinations it would deftly take up a lot of room to post many color combinations and styles of jigs hand tied jigs as you probably all know that you can do bazillion combinations and still we have not even touched a fraction of what you can do with the hand tied jig there are so many different things that you can do it's unbelievable as most of you probably know that you can incorporate a regular trout fly into a jig which is outstanding looking when you do so try a basic coachman body on a jig body you'll see what I mean of course these would be horribly expensive to produce but then again it might just be what Mr. trout or Mr. Bass or Mr. crappie would want so guys let your mind run wild with your ideals and the CM on this post.

Pinks my fav, orange my 2nd, more often than not I use an unpainted honestly.....weedless 95% of the time....

I try to keep it simple and stay with unpainted for myself. I deal with the colors with My plastics I use on my jigs. Fish eight rods spider rigging and have unpainted on all of them. When I need to change to a certain color, don't have to worry about putting a different color jig head on the line. Just change bodies.CF

I WAS an avid "painted jig head" person until lately. I'm finding out that an unpainted head catches as many (if not more) fish than painted heads. I believe alot of strikes are at the heads of painted jigs whereas with unpainted the plastics are getting the bites and that's where the hook is. I do still fish with painted heads as I have a few hundred of them. My favoirite colored jig heads are pink, Flo. green, and orange.
